Wa, Dec. 4, GNA - The Chief Justice, Mrs Justice Georgina Wood, has appointed Mr Justice Kwesi Appiah, an Appeal Court Judge, to work with judges in the northern sector and bring challenges facing them for discussion aimed at improving their working conditions. She said this when she paid a courtesy call on the Upper West Regional Minister, Mr. George Hikah Benson, after she had inaugurated District Magistrate courts at Jirapa and Nandom. The visit offered the Chief Justice the opportunity to interact with workers of the Judicial Service to find out the challenges facing them.
She also discussed with district assemblies the possibility of the assemblies providing court buildings and residential accommodation for judges and magistrates.
Mrs Justice Wood said she was impressed about the work of judges in the region and commended the district assemblies for helping to provide court infrastructure.
Mr. Benson commended the Mrs Justice Wood for coming to the region and said personnel of the Judicial Service in the region faced a lot of challenges, especially in the area of inadequate staffing and appealed to the Chief Justice to address it. He said the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) would support the Judicial Service to provide more courts for rural districts.
