Chief Justice 'weeps' for exit of retiring Akoto-Bamfo from Supreme Court

THE CHIEF Justice, Mrs Sophia Abena Akuffo, broke down in tears after paying a glowing tribute to her friend and sister at the bench, Justice Vida Akoto-Bamfo, during a valedictory (farewell) ceremony to mark Justice Akoto-Bamfo’s retirement from the bench.

The CJ described Justice Akoto-Bamfo’s records “as a challenge to the rest of the members of the bench after displaying the virtues of fairness and integrity in her work as a judge.

Addressing the gathering, she said her retirement is a “very well deserved but painful because we will not have the pleasure of our sister’s company when she leaves the bench.”

“It is very privileged to share her memories but also sad to miss the presence of our sister. Her Ladyship Vida Akoto-Bamfo, so today we celebrate you as you go on retirement.

“It has been a great honour and privilege to serve and it is a joy to see you at work deliberating on key concerns of this country in court.

‘Be inspired’

“As we celebrate Justice Akoto-Bamfo, all of us must be inspired by her hard work and quality standards. A choice to serve the country and her commitment must spur us on.

She referred to Psalm 92:12-14 admonishing the retiring justice that she should lead a life of integrity and righteousness to the glory of God so that even in her old age, she will continue to impact other lives and enjoy the blessings of the Lord.

The president of the Ghana Bar Association, Mr Tony Forson, and the Deputy Attorney General, Mr Joseph Kpemka, on behalf of the Attorney General, took separates turns to acknowledged the effort of the retiring Supreme Court Judge.
