...Give Us Development or We Advise Ourselves

THE BOAKOHENE, Nana Kwa-Gyamah III, and the people of Sefwi-Boako in the Western Region have asked the government to quickly go to their aid in the area of development, or they will advised themselves in the coming elections, "we are all Ghanaians and must have a share deal in the distribution of the National Cake, Sefwi-Boako would not sit down any longer to be sidelined in the area of development," The chief said.

Nana Kwa-Gyamah was speaking in an exclusive interview with this reporter at his "Boako" palace when this reporter paid a friendly visit to the town. He asserted that there are a lot of developmental problems facing the township of Sefwi-boako, which he alleged is not secret to any government that comes into power.

He does not see why up till now Sefwi-Boako should be wallowing behind development. "The only progress we had seen in the town is the introduction of electricity and about Five public Schools that the town can boast of, Even that the chief maintained is not enough, he says.

He said the former government, during the NDC regime tried putting up a market for the town, but the chief said became a white elephant. Touching on sanitation, Nana Kwa-Gyamah noted that the township of Boako had known no sanitation project.

"There are no toilet facilities, good drinking water and a standard market for the people to do business", he stressed. He, however, observed that the three boreholes they can boast of, have two broken down beyond repairs. This, the chief said, had led his people to rely on river and steam waters as a source of drinking water.

He said due to the lack of decent places of convenience in the town, the people have resorted to defaecating along the road sides and the bushes, any heavy down pour washes down the human excreter into the rivers and streams.

On education Nana stressed the need for more schools and new buildings to cater for the already congested classrooms. Taking this reporter round, Nana showed some of the over congested classroom blocks and dilapidated buildings to this reporter to substantiate his allegations.

He said due to the deplorable state of their only road from Tano Bridge to Sefwi-Boako, no investor would want to invest in the their land, adding that he does not why the Western Region of which Sefwi-Boako is a part, which has natural resources that could attract large amount of foreign exchange for the country, should be sidelined in development.

"We won't sit down for our rich resources to be extracted to developed other regions, while Boako remains under-developed", Nana said. He appealed to the government to use the abandoned premises of the 48 Engineering Regiment established by the former government as a clinic and secondary school for the town.

Nana said the only building that serves as a workshop for the JSS students has been turned into a classroom due to lack of equipment and inadequate classrooms. He wondered how his people would pass their final exams if they are to write the same exams with their counterparts nationwide who have better resources.
