Chief advises youth to seek higher education

Naa Dikomwine Domalae, Paramount Chief of Daffiama in the Upper West Region has advised the youth to seek higher education and permanent jobs before venturing into mainstream of politics,

He also called on leaders of political parties to educate their supporters on their civic responsibilities and make them understand that politics is all about ideas and alternative means of achieving desired results.

Naa Domalae explained that when Ghanaians especially the youth acquire higher education and know their civic rights and responsibilities would help ensure peaceful-co-existence in the communities and violent free elections to enhance the democratic dispensation.

“We are one people and should never allow politics to divide us because we have been here as a united people centuries before politics was introduced to us,” he said.

Naa Domalae gave the advice during the celebration of the “Duyee Festival” of the chiefs and people of the Duffiama Traditional Area in the Duffiama-Bussie-Issa District.

The festival was to foster unity and cooperation among the people in the traditional area, which was on the theme “Promoting Cultural Heritage, a tool for Peace and Development.”

The Daffiama Naa said the area is endowed with numerous invaluable cultural attributes including close family ties and care for the poor and expressed regret that these values have been broken down resulting in increased poverty and moral decay.

Naa Domalae commended the Regional Coordinating Council, the Regional House of Chiefs and the Centre for Indigent Knowledge for the bold step taken to put on hold the spate of mining in the region.

On developmental issues, he appealed to the Government to help upgrade the Daffiama Health Centre to a polyclinic.

Alhaji Amin Amidu Sulemani, Regional Minister, noted that culture plays a significant role in promoting the socio-economic development of Ghana.

“Culture promotes tourism; it generates income, it creates jobs in the communities, and it attracts foreign investors to Ghana,” he said.

Alhaji Sulemani commended the role of traditional rulers in helping to sustain peace and good governance, saying: “Without them, modern day democracy will be a farce since government will find it difficult to deal directly with the people”.

The Regional Minister appealed to the Daffiama Naa and other stakeholders to help resolve issues that undermine the development of the district, especially insecurity, environmental protection and all other disputes.

He assured the people of government’s commitment to extend electrification to all parts of the district to help promote cottage industry, and called for public, private partnership to achieve the goal.
