Topreman (E/R), July 14, GNA - The Chief of Topreman, near Akwatia, Barima Adomako Nyarko has reiterated his appeal to the Ghana Consolidated Diamonds (GCD) at Akwatia to supply the town with treated water.
He said untreated water being supplied to the town was the cause of many water-borne ailments affecting the people, especially typhoid fever.
Barima Nyarko made the appeal during the observance of the annual "Afahye" festival of the town on Saturday.
''Whereas water from a dam sited at the outskirts of Tropreman is treated before it is supplied to the GCD and Akwatia town what is being pumped direct to my town from the dam is untreated,'' he said. He expressed regret that even though he had been calling GCD authorities' attention to the anomaly nothing had been done and the situation was becoming unbearable.
Barima Nyarko also appealed to the government to tar the road that linked Boadua through Topreman to Akyem Takyiman, an important cocoa, timber, foodstuffs and diamonds producing area. The Topremanhene said a new town, Adomakokrom, was being developed near the abandoned GCD's "Camp Eight" and appealed to those farming there to refrain from interfering with the development of the township. He praised the Kwaebibirem District Assembly for establishing an Integrated Community Centre for Employable Skills at the camp to train the youth of Kwaebiriem District.
