Chief arraigned before court for allegedly insulting subject

Ejisu (Ash), Sept 15, GNA - The Ejisu magistrate court has granted a 10 million-cedi bail to Nana Nyanin Nyarko, chief of Besease near Ejisu, for allegedly insulting and threatening the life of Opanin Kwadwo Mahama, a beer barkeeper in the town.

The chief, who pleaded not guilty to charges of threat of death and offensive conduct, committed the act in the full glare of the police personnel at the Ejisu police station and he will re-appear on September 25.

Prosecuting, Police Inspector J.A. Asamani told the court presided over by Mrs Joyce Bamfo that on September 4, Nana Nyarko rushed to the police to make a complain about a case involving the Opanin Mahama and him and met complainant also lodging his case.

The chief, who could not wait for Opanin Mahama to finish going through the process to enable him take his turn, rained insults on Opanin Mahama, arguing that as the chief should be allowed to make his case first.

Opanin Mahama did not return the insults since traditionally he was not supposed to insult a chief but Nana Nyarko continued the insults and even at a point attempted throwing a stone at him but was prevented.

Inspector Asamani said that evening Nana Nyarko went to the beer bar but did not meet Opanin Mahama.

The chief then is said to have left a message with someone that the Opanin Mahama "would have seen his blood if he had met him at the time."
