Agona Duakwa (C/R), Dec. 14, GNA - The Mankrado of Agona Duakwa, Nana Kofi Abed IV has commended the government on waiving tax on goods brought to the country's ports, which are meant for free services to the people.
Nana Abed, however, appealed to the government to make clearing of such goods less cumbersome as difficulties encountered by the people and non-governmental organization (NGOs) in clearing them to improve the lives of the people had been discouraging.
The chief made the commendation at the fifth anniversary of the installation of Nana Yaw Nkwantakese Nyarko as 'Abontsedomhene' of Agona Duakwa in the Central Region.
Known in private life as Mr Raymond Miegnotte Nebinle, a Russian, who had naturalized as a citizen of the United Kingdom, had been of great help to the Duakwa community.
Nana Nyarko has established a scholarship scheme for the needy children of the town from which 80 children were currently benefiting. According to Nana Abed, the Abontsedomhene' had provided 20 computers with accessories for the establishment of a computer training centre.
He said the 'Abontsedomhene had introduced incentive packages for the teachers of the town to encourage them to deliver.
He had also engaged two carpenters and two masons and provided them with tools to train the youth in their artisenal jobs.
Nana Abed said the first batch of girls who were being trained with the 10 sewing machines Nana Nyarko provided in 2002 were about to pass out.
According to Nana Nyarko he had decided to extend assistance to other communities in the area and commended other chiefs and people of Duakwa for their support and co-operation.
