Chief fisherman calls for environmental hygiene

Winneba, (C/R) Feb. 16, GNA - The Chief fisherman of Winneba, Nana Kweku Mbir II has advised inhabitants to ensure sound domestic and environmental hygiene at all times to guarantee their good health and sustained business promotion.

Nana Mbir was addressing about 60 fishermen and fish mongers, who took part in a three-hour clean-up exercise organize by Mr Yakubu Barry and Paa Panyin Durban both members of the Awutu-Effutu-Senya District Assembly to tidy up parts of the Winneba beach at the weekends.

He said the success of their work would mainly depend on their good health, adding that it was for this reason that the assembly members, health workers and opinion leaders in their communities have been regularly counselling them to keep their homes and surroundings clean.

Mr Yakubu Barry told the people that good health cannot be bought with money that is why It is incumbent on individual citizens and communities to ensure regular communal duties to clean their environs of all undesirable materials that could cause diseases.

On his part, Mr Durban assured the Chief Fisherman and traditional authorities as well as the district assembly of their determination to co-ordinate efforts to educate the people on the importance of good sanitation practices to avoid the spread of communicable diseases.
