The regent of Bimbilla, Nyelingboligu Naa Yakubu Andani, who happens also to be the son of the late Bimbila Naa Naa Andani Dasana Yakubu, has expressed confidence in the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo-led administration to provide a sustainable solution to the chieftaincy litigation in the Nanum Traditional Area.
He also expressed gratitude to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government for appointing two of his sons –Dominic Nitiwul and Saaed Salifu – to the high offices of the Defence and Regional Minister respectively.
Nyelingboligu Naa made this known when the Northern Regional Minister Saaed Salifu together with his deputy, Solomon Boar, visited his palace in Bimbilla.
“Nanum trust the presidency on his word of not interfering in chieftaincy and also believe the president will ensure a lasting solution,” the regent said.
“Nanum also want to show our gratitude to the president Nana Addo for appointing two of our sons to the office of the Defence and Regional Minister.”
The visit by the ministers forms the last phase of their familiarization tour of the Northern Region ever since they both assumed office after being sworn into office at the Flagstaff House in Accra.
The Minister, Saaed Salifu, reiterated government’s pledge not to interfere in chieftaincy issues, adding that the presidency does not determine who is enskinned as a chief.
He further said, it will continue to stay clear off chieftaincy issues especially in Nanum.
The team was accompanied by the heads of security services in the Northern Region and some constituency and regional executives of the ruling party and also engaged the Nakpa side of the feuding factions.
“Be patience and let’s find means of burying the old man who has been in the morgue for years, I know you have exhibited patience all these years so why can’t you continue so that we can allow peace to reign”.
Mr Saaed Salifu called for total acceptance of the rule of the traditional council within whose preserve chiefs are selected.
“I charge you to allow the traditional council to determine who become Bimbilla chief and not a political party. Nana Addo has revealed that his government would not be part of chieftaincy politics and we his ministers do not intend to that either”, he emphasized.
