Chief says it's not only wealth that makes a person great

Gomoa Abora (C/R), June 1, GNA - The Chief of Gomoa Abora, Nana Kwesi Hammah V, has cautioned the youth against making acquisition of wealth means of achieving greatness.

"Wealth is not the only means of becoming great," the Chief said and advised those who want to become great through acquisition of wealth do it through hard work and planning. Nana Hammah said this at a durbar to mark "Ahobea Ketsewa" festival at Gomoa Abora near Apam.

Ahobea is a festival that is celebrated by the people of Gomoa in remembrance of a citizen of Gomoa called Ahor who laid down his life to save the people from a plague which killed many of the Fantes after they had migrated from Tekyiman to their present settlement. The festival is celebrated twice in a year, one in May to remember the death of their illustrious son and August to mark his final funeral rites.

Nana Hammah urged the youth to cultivate the spirit of sacrifice "which makes us to remember some of our forefathers even long after death.''

He outlined plans to accelerate development of the community and appealed to the citizens to rekindle their communal spirit to support the efforts of the chiefs. Mr Fiifi Blankson of the Bank of Ghana appealed to the people to invest in the education of their children if they wanted to get out of poverty.
