Chief to arrest men who do not care for their wards

Kukurantumi(E/R), Nov. 30, GNA - The Kukurantumihene and Adontenhene of the Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Area, Osabarima Boama Darko II has threatened to cause the arrest of men who refuse to care for the education of their wards in his area.

He explained that, the best way to ensure that the traditional area is continuously endowed with human resources for the future development of the area was to provide children with the best education. Osabarima Darko was speaking at a durbar to mark his first anniversary of enstoolment as Kukurantumihene and Adontenhene of Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Area.

He said the traditional council would take punitive measures against owners of video centres who allow minors to enter their premises. Osabarima Darko appealed to people in the community to disengage themselves from using child labour on their farms and to encourage the children staying with them to go to school.

The Eastern Regional Minister, Mr Samuel Ofosu Ampofo expressed government's appreciation to the Queen Mother and the elders of Kukurantumi, for the successful election of a new chief to succeed the late one. Mr Ampofo appealed to the people to rekindle the communal spirit in the area, to support the on-going developmental projects. He said a re-afforestation project would be started next year and appealed to traditional authorities to offer lands for the planting of trees.

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Abuakwa North, Professor Samuel Amoako said he had been able to initiate the establishment of MP's Development Committees at all the towns and communities in the constituency to support the implementation of projects being sponsored by the MP. He explained that, the committee is made up of representatives of the two major political parties in the community, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC), representative of the traditional authority, the assembly and nominees by the MP. Prof. Amoako said he had used his development funds to provide electricity to the Anyinesin Clinic and initiated moves for the rehabilitation of Anuabeng Nurse's quarters. He said he had initiated action together with the East Akin Municipal Assembly for the rehabilitation of the Old Tafo market, Kukurantumi Methodist School and Kukurantumi MA Primary School. As part of the durbar, a seven member MP's Development Committee for Kukurantumi was inaugurated. 30 Nov. 09
