Chief warns Mayor: Don’t attempt pulling down our houses; else...

The chief of Sakaman a suburb of Accra, Nii Addo, has warned Mayor of Accra Alfred Oko Vanderpuye, to either quash his dreams of pulling down building structures located in the area or prepare to suffer the harsh repercussions the fuming residents are packaging for him.

The Sakaman Mantse called on President Mahama to sit the Accra Mayor down and offer some form of advice to him concerning his willingness to bring down houses people have suffered to build.

According to the chief, Mr. Vanderpuye’s plan to pull down buildings considering the numerous housing challenges Ghanaians are faced with comes as a surprise and makes him wonder where he derives his advice from.

“I am appealing to President Mahama to sit him (Oko) down and talk to him over the issue,” he said.

“As I speak to you, the youth in the area have mobilized themselves waiting to avert the demolishing exercise,” the chief said.

“We know Oko was appointed to beautify Accra and not to deal in land issues...things would really look ugly for him if he doesn’t rescind his decision,” he added.

He held forth that buildings were a manifestation of huge investments people have tirelessly worked for; and this should inform the mayor that owners of the demarcated buildings would not beam with smiles should they see him pulling down their life savings.

He explained that the Sakaman residents would oppose Oko Vanderpuye and his team from pulling down their houses because there are no plans by the government to provide them with resting places at affordable prices.
