Chiefs and People of Suhum launch Three-year Development Plan

Suhum (E/R), Nov 22, GNA - The chiefs and people of Suhum in the Eastern Region have ended this year's Odwira Festival with the launch of a three-year development plan estimated at GHc60,000. Osaberima Aye Kofi I, Paramount Chief of Suhum Traditional Area, said the projects envisaged included the construction of a learning centre, a library, a playing field and a centre for arts and entertainment, including bathrooms and toilets.

Osaberima Aye Kofi said the project would be undertaken through voluntary contributions from citizens, while non-citizens were called upon to support the project with cash and materials for its early completion. The Paramount Chief appealed to the government to expedite action on the award of contract for the construction of the Suhum town road, and the extension of electricity from the national grid to all parts of the township by providing more transformers to upgrade power supply. He also called on government to resource the police adequately to meet the challenges posed criminal gangs.

Mr Samuel Fleischer-Kwabi, Suhum Kraboa Coalter District Chief Executive (DCE), said the Assembly had completed a 20-seater KVIP toilet facility and would soon provide bathrooms, bore holes, school structures and roads in various parts of the District.

He said the improved roads would also help farmers convey their produce to the market centres for sale.

Mr Fredrick Opare Ansah, Member of Parliament for Suhum who has been elected to the ECOWAS Parliament, was congratulated at the function. Mr Ansah promised an amount of GHc5,000 from his HIPIC fund to speed up the project and called on the people to put aside their political differences and unite in order to promote development. Baffour Anyan Bawuah I, Twafohene of Asamankese, and also a Chartered Accountant who chaired the function, pledged to supply books to the centre to enable the illiterate population to learn how to read and write at the centre.

Baffour Bawuah called on parents to send their children to school to enable them to benefit from the centre. 22 Nov 2010
