Gomoa Awomerew (C/R), July 31, GNA – The chiefs and people of four communities in the Gomoa East District of the Central Region have appealed to the government to reconstruct a bridge over river Ayensu on the Gomoa Techiam-Awomerew road.

The communities are Gomoa Awomerew, Adzintam, Panfokromm and Techiam.

Nana Okokodufo Abro III, Chief of Gomoa Awomerew, made the appeal on behalf of his colleagues at the graduation ceremony of the Adonai International School at Gomoa Awomerew.

The chiefs said the steel bridge on the river was almost washed away when the river over flowed its banks during a heavy down-pour in June last year.

The chief said the situation had made it extremely dangerous for school children, teachers, market women and farmers.

He said travelling from the area to Agona Swedru and other urban towns had become difficult, because of the bad situation of the bridge, adding that traders and passengers had to carry their goods and luggage to cross the river on foot, before joining another vehicle to their destination.

Nana Abro said “it is most unfair that though the bridge collapsed the same day with the one at Agona Swedru, that one has been reconstructed leaving ours.

He appealed to the government to come to the aid of the people by repairing the bridge to facilitate the movement of goods and services and to alleviate their suffering.

Mr Daniel K Obeng, Gomoa East Chairman of the Private Schools Association, expressed his concern about the failure on the part of the government to supply text books to private schools.

Mr Obeng urged the students to study hard to enable them to become responsible adults.

Mr Agya Appiah Kwame, Proprietor of the school also renewed his appeal to the government to support private schools.
