The National House of Chiefs has appealed to the striking labour unions to reconsider their decision and resume work on compassionate grounds whiles government finds lasting solution to the issue.

A statement signed by Naa Prof. John S. Nabila, President of the National House of Chiefs, and copied to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), said the situation was threatening the stability, peace, and development of the country.

It said the chiefs were pleading most especially to doctors, pharmacists and lectures to consider their decision in the interest of their patients and students who were at the receiving end of their services.

The statement said doctors, with their genuine grievances, should tamper justice with mercy since lives lost during this period could not be brought back after the strike.

It said it was important they collectively built industrial peace and harmony for a vibrant and prosperous nation.

The statement said government, the National Labour Commission, the Fare Wages and Salaries Commission, and aggrieved parties should soften their entrenched positions, co-operate and go back to the negotiation table to resolve the issues amicably.
