Chiefs get World Bank Support for dispute resolution

Accra, September 23, GNA - Mr Justice George Kingsley Acquah, Chief Justice, on Friday announced that the Judicial Service in collaboration with the World Bank was developing a project that would re-empower chiefs to settle domestic disputes.

He noted that in the past it was the role of chiefs to settle domestic disputes in order to maintain and sustain peace in the local communities under their jurisdiction.

Chief Justice Acquah said the project, which would very soon be discussed at the National House of Chiefs would help to resolve cases such as divorce and other marital disputes.

The Chief Justice made this known when he led a delegation to pay homage to the Ga Traditional Council at the Ga Mantse's Palace and to mourn with them on the demise of the Ga Mantse, Nii Amugi II. Chief Justice Acquah said the late Nii Amugui was a devoted leader whose great works were unifying and development oriented. The delegation, which included Mrs Jane Acquah, wife of the Chief Justice, presented four bottles of schnapps and a cash of one million cedis to the Ga Traditional Council toward the late Chief's funeral. Nii Dodoo Nsaki III, Otublohum Mantse, commended the delegation for coming to express their condolence and to mourn with them. In another development a four-member delegation representing the World Lebanese Cultural Union in Accra also called on the Ga Traditional council to express their condolences.

Mr Chakib Rammal, Chairman of the Union, said the late Nii Amougi had a close relationship with the Lebanese Community in Ghana, adding; "our presence here is to say that that close friendship is not broken".
