Chiefs urged to revive cultural heritage

Begoro (E/R), Sept. 29, GNA- The Chiefs and people of Fanteakwa on Sunday defied an early morning downpour to attend a non-denominational service, organised by the Begoro Local Council of Churches to climax their weeklong celebration of the Odwira festival.

The Begoro District Pastor of the Methodist Church of Ghana, Reverend Edward C. Bamfo, who preached the sermon with the theme: "Discipline, a tool for development", urged chiefs to revive the culture of the people to enhance rapid development.

He observed that the nation's cultural heritage is being adulterated, thereby, leading to indiscipline especially among the youth.

Rev. Bamfo deplored the manner in which young ladies dress in recent times, saying many of them expose their breasts, and other parts of the body "to entice men".

He described the situation as unfortunate, "particularly in this era of high rate of HIV/AIDS."

He asked Ghanaians to be "intellectually disciplined" so as to catch up with the global technological advancement. Rev Bamfo called on parents to do away with child abuse, child neglect, drug abuse, armed robbery and sexual promiscuity, among other social vices.

He also called for good counselling of the youth before they go into marriage to avoid divorce and broken homes at the detriment of their children.
