Salaga (N/R), April 21, GNA - Vice President Alhaji Aliu Mahama has urged chiefs to work with the Government to resolve problems in the communities.

He explained that it was only through that process that the people could be reconciled for development and progress.

Alhaji Mahama was addressing a durbar of chiefs and people of Salaga in the East Gonja District as part of his tour of the Northern Region.

He said the Government was considering the request by the Yagbonwura Bawa Doshie, Paramount Chief of the Gonja Traditional Area, for the creation of a separate region for Gonjaland.

Alhaji Mahama advised the people to remain united and to maintain the prevailing peace in the area, before, during and after Election 2004.

He announced that the Salaga Senior Secondary had been selected to benefit from the Model School Programme, adding that constructional works would soon commence at the school.

The Kpembewura Alhaji Haruna Ibrahim Kibasibi, Paramount Chief of Kpembe Traditional Area, called on the Government to facilitate the restoration of the boundary pillars between Gonjaland and the Brong Ahafo Region and to resettle all those displaced during the Nawuri-Gonja conflict.

The Kpembewura appealed to the Government to open a training college in the district to help train teachers to man schools in the area.
