Chieftaincy Disputes Rise In Brong-Ahafo Region

Space FM,Sunyani - The President of the Brong-Ahafo Regional House of Chiefs, Okatakyie Agyeman Kudom IV, has expressed regret about the increasing rate of chieftaincy cases in the region, which has shot up from 52 in 2006 to 59.

The president attributed the rise to the lack of a Counsel to assist the judicial committees to adjudicate in the cases. He however announced that a new Counsel has been secured and that he would be introduced to the house at the appropriate time.

Okatakyei Kudom IV, also the Omanhene of the Nkoranza Traditional Area, was speaking at the second Annual General Meeting of the house in Sunyani. He commended the various traditional rulers who participated during the Brong-Ahafo Regional Day of the country's Golden Jubilee Celebrations.

The house presented ¢20 million as part payment of a ¢60 million pledge it made to support the Catholic University College of Ghana.

Okatakyie Agyeman Kudom IV commended the Regional Coordinating Council for sponsoring two nominees of the house to attend the 2007 Annual New Year School at the University of Ghana, January this year and the regional minister, Mr Ignatius Baffour Awuah for renovating the Conference Hall of the house.The president said the regional minister has assisted the house in so many ways which makes him a true son of the region.

He announced that the minister for Chieftaincy Affairs, Mr S.K. Boafo would be visiting the region next week.
