Awutu Beraku, (C/R) Sept 9, GNA - The Ministry of Chieftaincy and Culture would continue to facilitate the traditional councils and Houses of Chiefs to enable the Nananom to perform their roles towards national development.
The Minister for Chieftaincy and Culture, Mr Alex Asum-Ahensa, said this at a durbar to climax the annual celebration of the Awubia Festival of the chiefs and people of Awutu Beraku, in the Central Region.
The theme of celebration was: "New Step towards progress and development in unity".
The Minister also said that the various Ministries, Departments and Agencies, including the District Assemblies, would continue to deliver on their mandate for the benefit of the people.
The Minister said it is pertinent to observe that in addition to the peculiar significance of festivals to their celebrants, they also serves as vehicles for the socio-economic development for their areas and the country as a whole.
Mr Asum-Ahensa stated that for progress and development to take place, there should be committed and effective leadership supported by a willing and dedicated hardworking people, adding that, progress and development also thrives best in an environment of peace.
The Central Regional Minister, Madam Ama Benyiwa-Doe, appealed to the people that while the government was doing her best to provide for their social needs, they should ensure that peace prevails among them.
She said region boasts of some of the best educational institutions in the country and urged the people to take their education seriously to enable them to acquire the needed educational background to enable them to become useful future citizens.
"Indeed, the recent Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) results put the district in an unenviable position and this must be a source of worry and concern to all stakeholders in the district and region's development," she advised
The minister said that the Awutu District Assembly was evaluating tenders for the construction of a three -story administration block, which would be funded from common fund.
