Bekwai (Ash), May 9, GNA - Nursing mothers have been advised to keep their environment clean to ensure a healthy growth of their children.

Mrs Letitia Di-Abene, Amansie East District Director of Health Services, gave the advice at a ceremony held at the Bekwai Government Hospital to mark this year's Child Health Promotion Week. She said children were vulnerable to diseases and since most ailments are caused by unsanitary environmental conditions, there was the need to maintain a healthy environment to keep children healthy and strong all the time. The day was set aside to sensitise mothers to adopt good breast-feeding and weaving practices. It was on the theme: "Healthy Environment, Healthy Children".

Other activities planned as part of the celebrating included the immunization of children less than five years against the six-killer diseases, the provision of vitamin 'A' supplementation and mosquito treated bed nets at subsidized prices. Mrs Di-Abene advised mothers to visit clinics to weigh their children and immunize them during the week.
