Begoro (E/R), July 28, GNA - The Eastern Regional Director of Ghana Health Services, Dr. Ebenezer Appiah-Denkyira, has said that, child mortality in the country would increase by ten per cent by 2015. Addressing the Fanteakwa District Assembly meeting at Begoro on Tuesday, he explained that the forecast death rate was due to the lack of adherence to health tips and directives from health workers. Dr Appiah-Denkyira asked the assembly members, chiefs and queen mothers to assist health volunteers to educate the public on good hygienic practices.
He said 80 per cent of people in the Northern sector used the treated mosquito nets against 20 per cent in the Southern sector and advised the public to use treated mosquito nets to protect themselves against malaria disease.
Dr Appiah-Denkyira said the Ghana Health Service would soon institute the Best Assemblymen award to promote good health in their electoral areas.
He advocated institution of regular community/workers' durbars to make heads of decentralized departments interact with the community and account for their work to them.
