Children of late Major Mahama yet to be informed about father’s demise

The family of the late Major Maxwell Adam Mahama says it is yet to inform the only two sons of the late soldier about the death of their father.

The late Major Mahama left behind two young children and a widow, Barbara Mahama.

Speaking Tuesday on the Gold Power Drive with Samuel Eshun, spokesperson of the family, Douri Bennin Haji said “the two children of the late Mahama are not aware of the death of their father; the family is yet to inform them.”

He however, did not disclose the manner in which the sad and shocking news will be broken to the children.

Douri Bennin Haji also expressed gratitude to Ghanaians for the love and support shown them following the death of Major Maxwell Adam Mahama who was the only son of his parents.

He appealed to Ghanaians to learn lessons from the gruesome murder of the late Mahama and not visit such mob lynching act on anyone.

Monday, June 5, marked exactly one-week the late Mahama met his untimely and painful death.

The late officer was lynched by some residents of Denkyira-Obuasi in the Central Region of Ghana where he was on assignment as commander of a military detachment to fight illegal mining.

Many Ghanaians are shocked and are mourning following the gruesome murder of Mahama. The youth of the town, led by the Assemblyman, William Baah allegedly mistook the soldier for an armed robber and lynched him on Monday, May 29, 2017.

The late Mahama will be laid to rest at the Military Cemetery in Osu, Accra. He will be buried in his military ceremonial uniform.

Major Adam Mahama will be given a state burial on Friday, June 9, 2017.

Trust fund for the family of Mahama

On Monday June 5, President Akufo-Addo visited the family house of the late Major Mahama at Burma Camp in Accra and announced the setting up of a memorial trust fund with seed money of Gh¢500,000.

He has also donated GH¢50,000 from his personal resources to the fund.

The President also promoted the late Maxwell Adam Mahama from the rank of Captain to Major.
