Juaso (Ash), August 5, GNA - The District Chief Executive for Asante-Akim South, Mr De-graft Fokuo, has criticized the insistence by some parents that their children speak the English language in the house.
This, he said, was unhelpful for the preservation of the country's various indigenous languages and is an assault on the nation's culture.
Mr Fokuo said this in a speech read for him at an inter-circuit basic schools arts and culture festival held at Juaso.
He described as unacceptable the situation where some young people could hardly complete a sentence in the local language without lacing this with an English word or two.
Mr Fukuo spoke of the need for efforts to reverse the trend and expressed concern about the negative influence of foreign cultures on the nation's youth which is fuelling moral decadence.
He appealed to the children to take pride in the nation's rich cultural heritage.
