The Chinese Ambassador, Mr Lu Yongshou on Thursday presented 90 cartons of fireworks worth about 100 million cedis to the state to be used in adding colour to the first anniversary celebrations of the NPP administration.

Mr. Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey, Minister of Information and Presidential Affairs received the fireworks to be used on January 5 at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle as part of activities marking the anniversary.

Mr Lu said the embassy believed the celebration was worthwhile in view of the "substantial positive changes in all areas that the government has recorded in the short period of about one year."

He said since the NPP government took office last January, it had put in place measures that had led the people of Ghana on the road to revamping the economy, as revealed by economic indicators.

"The Chinese Embassy is happy to join the people of Ghana in commemorating this special occasion," Ambassador Lu said.

He expressed the hope that the coming years would see more positive changes as a result of the hard work and perseverance of both the government and the people.

Mr Obetsebi-Lamptey said the fireworks would be handed over to the military who have the skills for its proper handling.

He said: "fire crackers if properly handled bring joy but they can also cause disaster with accompanying pain" The government, he said, would use the New Year to reflect on the past and prepare to put changes in areas that needed to be changed.

"We look forward to a better and greater co-operation with the people of China," he said.
