China donates office equipment to Parliament

The National People's Congress of the Republic of China has presented office equipment valued at about ?282 million to Parliament.

The items include five colour television sets, 10 computers, 10 units of multifunction machines, 20 toners, 10 catridges, one set of spare parts for the computers and five DVD Video Players.

Presenting the equipment, the Chinese Ambassador to Ghana, Mr Lu Yongshou, said the presentation is in fulfilment of the promise made by the Vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress of China, His Excellency Xu Jialu, when he visited Ghana in May, last year.

He noted that the visit has further deepened the mutual understanding, friendship and co-operation between the two legislatures.

Mr Lu said the Chinese Government and people value the friendly relations between both countries and they also attach great importance to the enhancement of the economic and technical co-operation with Ghana. He expressed the hope that the equipment will be of great assistance to the parliamentarians.

The Speaker of Parliament, Mr Peter Ala Adjetey, who received the items, expressed his gratitude to the National People’s Congress and the ambassador for their role in ensuring that the items were delivered as promised.

Mr Adjetey announced that another Chinese Parliamentary delegation will visit Ghana's Parliament in May, this year and as a reciprocal gesture, he will lead a Ghanaian Parliamentary delegation to visit China in late August this year in pursuance of the mutual cooperation between the two legislatures.
