Twenty-eight Chinese experts are to help Ghana implement a food security project where 9.5 million ha of land, once infested with the onchocerciasis worm, will be brought under cultivation, the Ghana News Agency reported on Monday. Agriculture Minister Courage Quasigah said on Monday, at the end of a day-long workshop on socioeconomic development in the onchocerciasis-freed zone, that the Chinese would work with farmers in the country's Northern and Upper East regions. The workshop (organized by UNDP, the World Bank, FAO, WHO and the National Oncho Secretariat) also examined the project's feasibility over a five-year period to improve education, health care, infrastructure and irrigation, GNA reported.
