...to Commission on Culture

THE Chinese Embassy has presented computers with accessories and printers valued at about $30,000 to the Ghana Commission on Culture.

Mr Li Yongchuan, Counsellor at the embassy who presented the items, explained that the gesture is China’s contribution towards the enhancement of the cordial relationship between the two countries.

He said since the 1960s when the two countries first signed an agreement for technical and cultural exchanges, the two countries have enjoyed very cordial relations. Mr Yongchuan said the embassy recognises the role of culture in national development and pledged their co-operation and support for the sector for the benefit of the two countries.

Receiving the items, Prof George P. Hagan, chairman of the commission, said the items would be of immense benefit to the commission in the area of research, documentation and promotion of Ghana’s cultural heritage.

He said data collected from such research will help them come out with the publication of a quarterly cultural education magazine, “KOROM” which is the goal of the commission.

He recounted the various forms of assistance received from the Chinese Government and expressed the hope that the collaboration would be sustained.
