The wanted Chinese rosewood suspect is currently in Accra planning to fly back to China, police investigators in Tamale have hinted Starr News.

Helen Huang, according to investigators, is in the capital with her Ghanaian male assistant.

She is on a GH20,000 enquiry bail with one surety having been arrested for transporting stashed containers of rosewood lumbers. She has reportedly jumped bail and on police wanted list.

The CID officers who want to remain anonymous said the suspect has been trying to contact officials at the Chinese embassy in Accra to seek assistance for her planned escape.

Police detained the Chinese national on Monday, May 6, after two trucks carrying four containers of rosewood logs illegally harvested in northern villages and were destined to Tema to be shipped to Beijing. She claim ownership of the consignment but failed to produce document of her stay in Ghana.

She was expected to sign in at the police station on Tuesday but has since not showed up.

The intelligence officers suspect Huang is plotting to abscond to avoid being prosecuted.

“We got information about her movement. She had correspondence with someone around Tumu and Bolga… then she left the region entirely,” a CID officer in Tamale told Starr News.

“We monitored her movement and I can tell you with confidence that the woman is in Accra. We’ve observed her increasing activity at the China embassy. We don’t know yet what’s going on and do not want to speculate but we suspect she is trying to get some help in order to get out”.
