Chinese assists Korle Bu Teaching Hospital

Accra, June 22, GNA - The Chinese Government on Wednesday presented medical equipment worth $134,166 to the management of Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra.

They included four Insight Monitor, six Syringe Pumps, six Pumps for Infusion, a Recording Page for ECG, two foreign body forceps, Nephroscope, Pneumatic Shock type and Medical Injection Pump.


Professor Gao Wenzhi, Economic and Commercial Counselor, Chinese Embassy in Ghana, presenting the equipment said without good health there would be no quality of life for any individual.


He noted that the hospital was the biggest and advanced not only in Ghana but West Africa and the staff were important in the society. Prof. Wenzhi announced that some Chinese Medical Teams had been dispatched to some African countries and those in Ghana would work at the hospital for Korle-Bu for 18 months.

Professor Wei Jian Yui, Head of the Chinese Medical Team at the hospital said they realized the hospital lacked some equipment and the donation would help to improve the professional competence of the medical practitioners to provide quality health care delivery to patients. Professor Seth Aryeetey, Chairman of Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital Board of Directors, expressed appreciation to the team for their support in ensuring good health care for the people.


He said the collaboration with China had improved and would go a long way to ensure effective and efficient health care delivery. Professor Nii Otu Nartey, Chief Executive Officer of the hospital said it lacked some of the equipment presented and would significantly improve their operations.


He said the Nephroscope would assist in the treatment of stones in the Kidney.
