Kpandai (NR), Sept. 04, GNA - Dr Edward Mahama, Presidential candidate of the PNC on Wednesday said the selection of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as NPP's presidential running-mate is a sign of the party's tiredness in government, which would lead to its defeat in the December general elections.
He explained that Dr. Bawumia was a reputed technocrat and a young man who had the qualities to transform the country's economy through banking but not a politician.
"The PNC is grooming him for the position of the Governor of the Bank of Ghana in 2009 when the party would be in office but unfortunately, the NPP has jeopardised his future." Dr Mahama was addressing separate durbars at Bimbilla, Salaga, Chamba and Sogon No I, as part of his eight-day tour of the Northern Region to explain the PNC's vision to the electorate and to solicit their votes to win the upcoming general elections.
The supporters of the party mobbed him at all the places he toured and showered praises on him, and urged him to work hard so that electoral victory would be his, in December.
Dr. Mahama told the gatherings: "I appeal to you the electorate to relieve the NPP because its leaders are tired and have lost focus and needed rest just as the NDC in the year 2000."
He also called on the Electoral Commission to ensure that all potential voters who registered during the limited voters' registration exercise and did not receive identity cards got them before December 7. "I have received information from Chamba in the Bimbilla constituency that the voters' registration exercise did not complete. This is unacceptable, and the EC must take measures to ensure that every eligible voter gets the opportunity to exercise his or her franchise," he said.
Dr. Mahama said what happened in the Tamale Metropolis during the exercise was a signal, which signalled the danger that the December general elections could face if measures were not taken to clean the "bloated voters' register".
He assured the electorate that the government of the PNC would promote mechanized agriculture to enhance production, create jobs for the youth, demonstrate an open administration and ensure that no room was created for corruption.
