Accra, Oct 27, GNA - Delegates to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) congress in December have been urged to settle on Dr Kwame Addo Kufuor as the flag bearer of the party to contest the 2008 elections. The call was made by Alhaji Abdul Wahab, National Co-ordinator in-charge of Logistics of the Addo Kufuor Campaign, at the end of a familiarisation tour of constituencies in the northern region. Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Accra he said that the delegates should settle on the former Defence Minister and MP for the Manhyia constituency because "He is a man of many parts who can propel the country's economy towards the path of consolidation". He noted that before the 2000 general election the NDC flag bearer Professor Evans Atta Mills told reporters of a radio station when asked, which of the then "Opposition" members that he could work with if he won the elections for the advancement of the country mentioned Dr Addo Kufuor, Mr Osafo Marfo and Mr Kwame Pianim.

Alhaji Abdul Wahab said Dr Kufuor who was once declared the "Best Minister" from all indications was the best out of the lot contesting to become the flag bearer of the NPP and was "the most appealing to both party members and the opposition" who could unite the country with his sterling qualities.

He noted that his leadership qualities, record of achievement and humility would attract all "The floating voters" to his side to enable the NPP to win the elections "hands down" to retain power. The Campaign Co-ordinator stated that any policy by an NPP flag bearer and a potential President of Ghana after the 2008 elections would go a long way to influence the life of the people hence the need to endorse Dr Addo Kufuor as the leader of the party to make a positive impact on the country's development.
