Christians advised to show compassion

Accra, Sept. 9, GNA - The Reverend Mrs Willie Jordan, President of the Fred Jordan Mission, in the United States on Sunday urged Christians to show compassion to the needy, oppressed, hungry and the vulnerable in society as Jesus Christ did. "Jesus was moved with compassion when he saw the hungry, the needy, and the demon-possessed," she said and urged Christians to ask God for a compassionate spirit to enable them fulfil their God given abilities. Rev. Jordan made the appeal when she led the congregation of the Covenant Family Community Church (CFCC) in Accra to dedicate a multi-million dollar temple named "Ark Temple." The temple, built in glass, has a large auditorium, which can accommodate about 1,200 people.

"The gospel is like oxygen. The world is suffocating, and only the gospel can save it," Rev Jordan said and advised Christians to also dedicate themselves totally to God since they were the representatives of Jesus Christ on earth.

The Ark Temple, she said should be used as a real ark where all needy souls will come and experience compassion. Rev. Jordan who cut the tape and unveiled a plague in front of the temple, tasked members of the church to expand the ministry of the CFCC countrywide.

Ms Joyce Aryee, Founder of the Salt and Light Ministry, reminded Christians that they were the salt and light of the earth and said the world would be blunt without the presence of Christians. She urged Christians to take the responsibility to heal the country of immorality, sorrow, depression, corruption and other vices so that Ghana could achieve real development that we all yearn for. "Salt and Light bring cheer, hope, joy, preservation and even power, Christians have the power to change the world, evil should run away in the presence of light," Ms Aryee said. Ms Aryee who is the Chairman of the Ghana Chamber of Mines, said it does not take the majority to effect a change in the world and urged Christians to act as salt and light to make a difference in the world. Rev. Dennis Osei Manu, Senior Pastor of the Church, said the building which had taken over ten years to be completed, was finally being dedicated to God.

Expressing gratitude to all members who had contributed to the building with materials, money, time, labour and prayers, Rev. Manu said: "We believe that gathering people from all walks of life in a decent temple is well pleasing before the lord God. Our prayer to God is that as people come in here to pray and seek His face, He will hear and answer their prayers."

He pledged the Church's commitment to preach the word in truth as they awaited the second coming of the Lord Jesus Christ. Rev Manu advised Christians to depend fully on God, since He alone could lead and direct life. 09 Sept. 07
