Christians asked to pray for the spirit of tolerance

Kumasi, Aug 9, GNA - Mr Benjamin Asonaba-Dapaah, Member of the Council of State, has called on Christians to pray for the electorate to acquire the spirit of tolerance, to withstand provocative utterances from politicians.

He said people were likely to get angry at opposing political views, as the nation prepared for Election 2004 and this might disrupt the prevailing peace.

Mr Asonaba-Dapaah, who was addressing the Asafo and New Tafo congregation of the Pentecost Church in Kumasi on Sunday, said party politics should not lead the country to war.

He asked Christians to lead exemplary lives and also contribute to the development of the country.

"The well being and spiritual development of the people depends on the religious organisations.

"We have the key to bring about peace, unity and development of the country. Don't let us misuse it to bring unrest."

Mr Asonaba- Dapaah advised members of the Church to abstain from indiscriminate sex to boost the fight against HIV/AIDS.

"There are good times ahead and it will be unfortunate for people not to live to enjoy the good times because of AIDS," he said. The Presiding Elder of the New Tafo Assembly of the Church, Elder Robert Antwi-Boasiako, led the congregation in an intercessory prayer for the government and for peace during and after the Presidential and Parliamentary Elections.
