Christians celebrate Christmas in Bolga

Various churches in the Bolgatanga Municipality on Tuesday held services to commemorate the birth of Jesus Christ, a pillar and foundation of Christianity.

At the Sacred Heart Cathedral, Rev. Father Ezekiel Sulley Farouk, Assistant Parish Priest, called on Catholics to change their attitude towards God in order to enjoy His love.

He said many had fallen short of the glory of God and required all to forgive one another to experience the joy that Jesus brought to mankind.

He asked Christians to live Godly lives in order to enjoy the saving power of Jesus to humanity adding that Jesus was the most precious gift God ever gave mankind as a manifestation of His love for all.

Rev Farouk said God loved all humans, no matter how sinful they had become, and that it was for that reason that Christ was born to save the world.

He said Christians should reciprocate this love and spend time to get closer to God who desires nothing other than the knowledge of Him.

At the Saint Cyprian’s Anglican Church, the Parish Priest, Rev. Canon Dennis Tong, called on Christians to emulate the life of Christ and make love a cardinal principle to continue to enjoy the love of Christ.

He indicated that Christmas was very important on the Catholic calendar because it is the base for which Christ was born to save mankind from sin.

He called on members of the congregation to reconcile with all those they had begrudged in order to secure the favor of Christ and promote the peace Christ was born to preach.

During service on Christmas eve, Canon Tong called on the congregation to continue to pray to God for peace in the country concerning the recently held general elections.

Meanwhile Reverend Father Kelvin Abarikisi, in his homily on eve of Christmas, said: “Christmas without faith is a joke.”

He said: “Jesus left a better glory in order to come and save us” and called on all who had dethatched themselves from God to return because His intervention in the lives of all could not be overemphasized.
