Christians in Tamale Metropolis mark way of the cross

Tamale, April 07, GNA - Some religious faiths in the Tamale Metropolis on Friday in a melancholic mood mourned the crucifixion of Jesus Christ and observed the way of the cross in various churches.

Most churches, particularly Catholics' were filled to capacity and sung songs of sorrows to show their love and in remembrance of the death of Jesus Christ some 2000 years ago.

Most of the worshipers wore the traditional Ghanaian red and black attire, which is a symbolism of pain and mourning and sung religious dirges, drawing the congregation into mourning.

The mood at the OLA Catholic Cathedral in Tamale was one of sadness since the imitation of the crucifixion symbolizes suffering and painted a picture of sorrow in the minds of the worshipers.

The various churches prayed for unity, forgiveness, peace and understanding among the people to foster human development.

The Very Reverend Father Andrew Tingan, who presided over the mass asked the congregation to learn lessons from "The way of the cross" and live lives worth emulation to in more souls for Christ."

The Reverend Father David Mbimadong, Father in- charge of the Sacred Heart Parish at Fuo SSNIT Estates Catholic Church urged Christians to show compassion to one another to justify the ordeals Christ went through to save them.

Prayers were said for the Pope, the head of the Catholic Church, Bishops and public office holders in Ghana for God to give them the wisdom to execute their work to promote unity and development in the country.

Earlier in the morning, most of the churches observed the way of the cross by walking through some of the principal streets of Tamale for about three to four hours while others observed the event within their church premises.
