Reverend Samuel Amegboe, Awudome Tsito Area Head of Assemblies of God Church, has bemoaned the inappropriate conducts and behaviours during Christmas.

“Christmas is now characterised by excessive revelry as well as immoral and unethical acts even by Christians,” he said.

Rev. Amegboe said this at the end of a week-long revival to mark the Christmas festivities at Awudome Tsito in the Ho West district.

He stated that Christmas should instead be a demonstration of man’s reciprocal love of God towards humanity rather than engaging in the very things that necessitated the birth of the Saviour.

“The sinful and depraved condition of man called for a saviour as no human was worthy enough to redeem the human race,” he noted.

Rev. Amegboe stated that Jesus Christ was a demonstration of God’s love to redeem humanity from condemnation, adding, “The focus of Christmas is, therefore the love God so graciously offered us.”

He continued by saying that Jesus came to redeem man from the power and consequences of sin.

The Reverend stated that the birth of Jesus also offered eternal life that humanity was robbed of due to man’s disobedience to God.

“Through Jesus Christ, God has offered us the opportunity to escape his wrath.

“Sadly, many so-called Christians continue to wallow in sin and defy the call to accept this amazing offer,” he noted with concern.

Rev. Amegboe advised Christians to avoid excessive merry-making and all activities that would lead them to sin during the celebration.

He told them that the season called for sober reflection on the love of God towards them, and so they should turn away from all forms of disobedience towards God.

“Do not let us abuse the unconditional love God has for us,” he advised.

Rev. Amegboe reminded Christians to bear in mind that God would one day bring all their deeds into judgement.

He called on traders and drivers not to use the season to cheat their fellow Ghanaians in the name of maximising profit.

“Let us avoid turning Christmas and the new year festivities into a time of doing more evils that we engaged in but rather use it to rededicate our lives to Jesus as we prepare for His second coming,” Rev. Amegboe exhorted.

He called on Ghanaians to jealously guard their God-given peace and live with each other in harmony and unity in the New Year.
