Four stories make the frontpage of the bi-weekly Ghanaian Chronicle today. The major one in bold print has the the headline: OBED ASAMOAH SPLITS NDC According to the story, Ghanaian Chronicle intellegence hasa gathered that a campaign is currently going on in ministeral and aprty circles to rid the Cabninet and the party of the services of the Attorney- General and Minister of Justice, Dr Obed Asamoah, following the missing of millions of cedis and the fraudulent affidavit saga in the Ayawaso West Wuogon case that received drubbing from High Court Judge Mrs Agnes Dordzie. Mr Dordzie directed the General Legal Council to investigate the Attorney-General and prescribe punishment if any. The campaign according to Chronicle sources at the heart of government has split the party into two as another section has mounted a spirited campaign to save the political career of Asamoah who is also Chairman of the Finance Committee of the NDC and regarded as the legal brain behind the Party. President Jerry John Rawlings is said to be seething with anger over the way the Attorney-General conducted the affairs over the missing million and the fraudulent affidavit involving the AG's Office. As leader of a prty of integrity, probity and accountability, Rawlings is said to be seriously embarrassed by the many scandals involving the Minister of Justice. The sharp divide over the Attorney-General has forced the handsa of the partyy shots to put off the NDC congress scheduled for Takoradi in the Western Region next month to avoid a deep split threatening the ruling Party. Asamoah himself is cooling off the public outcry in Harare Zimbabwe, the Ghaianaian Chronicle said.
