Techiman, (B/A) June 28, GNA - Mr Simon Yussif Kewura, the Brong Ahafo Regional Correspondent of the Chronicle was beaten by an angry supporters of the Techiman South Constituency of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) at the inauguration of the Youth and Women's Wing of the party at Techiman on Sunday.

The attack was incensed through pronouncements made by Mr. John Owusu Agyemang, a Techiman-based lawyer who accused the Chronicle reporter for wrongly carrying a story against Mr. Simon Addae, the elected NDC parliamentary candidate for the constituency.

They attacked the reporter with clubs and stones before his colleagues from the GNA and the Daily Graphic and some constituency executive members of the party could manage to whisk him into a waiting vehicle to the Techiman Holy Family Hospital where he was treated and discharged.

In the process he lost an amount of 298,000 cedis. It would be recalled that the June 18 edition of the Chronicle carried a story under the caption "We lost because of imposition of Alhaji Kwadwo Mahama Adam - NDC lamented".

Meanwhile, the constituency executives and the regional chairman of the party, Alhaji Collins Dauda have expressed regret about the incident and rendered an apology to the reporter and the media in the region and promised that the incident would not happen again. They have accordingly refunded the lost money.
