The Life Assembly Worship Centre on Boxing Day feted more than 50 mentally-challenged roaming on the principal streets of Kumasi.

They were not only treated to good meals but some received cash gifts.

Besides, their worn-out clothing were changed, while those with unkempt hair were given clean shave and haircuts.

Additionally, the church held prayer, deliverance and counseling session to calm down those, who were wild.

The Reverend Dr. Christian Kwabena Andrews, popularly known as “Sofo Kyiri Abosom” said, it was in keeping with teachings of Jesus Christ and called on Christians to celebrate the Christmas by spreading the gospel, sharing and bringing relief to the poor and the vulnerable just as Jesus did.

He said the exercise would be observed annually and that it was a clarion call to all Christians to ensure they reached out to the needy and the destitute.

The neglect and stigmatization of the sick, especially those with mental problems would have to end - they need to be given good care and treatment.

The Rev Dr. Andrews said he was overwhelmed at their seemingly sane response to the gesture and attributed this to the power of God, and noted that if the love of God was extended to them, they could be integrated into the larger society.
