Churches mark Good Friday/Easter with conventions at Dormaa-Ahenkro

Churches at Dormaa-Ahenkro in the Dormaa Central Municipality of the Bono Region ushered in the Good Friday and Easter celebrations with conventions and services to mark the crucifixion and death of Jesus Christ.

Most of the churches started the festivities as early as Wednesday evening and were expected to climax their activities on Sunday.

The observation of the occasion (Good Friday/Easter) were not only at Dormaa-Ahenkro, but nationwide as it was an annual global event marked by all Christians.

At a location adjacent the Dormaa-Ahenkro branch of the GCB Bank Limited building, members of the Pentecost Church within the Dormaa-Ahenkro District and those from the Berekum District converged for their annual convention. Some of the Churches held services twice daily, morning and evening, while others had theirs either in the morning or evening only.

On the Good Friday, members of a local Roman Catholic Church at the ‘Low Cost’ residential area, members clad in mourning costumes solemnly observed the occasion.

Reverend Isaac Ampomah, the Head Pastor, Schaffaer Memorial Congregation of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana in a sermon appealed to Christians to exhibit the love of Jesus Christ not only towards their neighbours and acquaintances, but everybody.

He reminded Christians on their primary duty to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ to unbelievers for them to appreciate the importance of the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, saying through that a lot of souls that were perishing would become saved.

Meanwhile, the occasion created market for traders of diverse products and commodities as brisk businesses went on in the ‘city’.

Around the Schaffaer Memorial Presbyterian Church, live poultry birds were being sold at GhC35.00 and GHC40.00, depending on the size and weight of the bird.
