Churches reminded of their role towards national development.

Effutu-Gyahaadze (C/R), Feb. 23, GNA- Churches, Islamic Movements and Traditional Councils have been advised to playt their role in the socio-economic, cultural and political development of the country. They should exert their influence on their followers to sustain the peace and stability in the country for effective maintenance of democracy and progress.

Captain Steve Kwamena Armah (rtd), District Chief Executive for Awutu-Effutu-Senya,n said this when he commissioned a 120- million-cedis pre-school block and a KVIP for the people of Effutu-Gyahaadze, near Winneba in the Central Region.

The project was funded by Plan Ghana, a non-governmental organization (NGO) while the people also provided communal labour. Capt. Armah said if churches, Islamic organizations and chiefs in the country apply their influence on Ghanaians, the fight against indiscipline would be minimised.

He repeated NPP government's determination to ensure free and fair, elections in December this year.

He praised Plan Ghana for the continued support to the communities in the Awutu-Effutu-Senya area, and said his office would maintain its co-operation at all times.

Dr Derek Aryee, programme support manager of Plan Ghana, said his organization would continue to offer assistance to people in the operational area of the organization to improve their lot.

He charged parents and guardians in the town to send their children to school to enable the children benefit from the facility.

Nana Heitey, Gyahaadzehene, said chiefs and opinion leaders in the town have established a scholarship scheme for children in primary four up to the Senior Secondary School (SSS) and advised parents in the town to encourage their children to study hard to assess the facility.
