Finally Ghanaians and the Consumer Protection Agency, are moving a step further from the usual complaints about the seemingly inefficiency of the Electricity Company of Ghana to provide reliable power supply, to tackle the problem backing the complaints with some action.

Currently the Consumer Protection Agency is gathering signatures from concerned Ghanaians and users of ECG for an impending Class Action Suite against the Electricity Company of Ghana, in the court of law to demand for efficient and reliable supply of power.

This latest move, it must be said is unprecedented and long over due considering the failure of the Public Utility Regulatory Commission to perform their core duty of regulating and ensuring good standards in the delivery; by utility companies to the people of Ghana.

The action which has started on an internet petition site thepetitionsite.com seeks to attract 1000 signatures to start the process of demanding good service delivery and accountability from the ECG, has now gathered 885 signatures from Ghanaians all over the world with a few left to hit the target.

This move initiated by the consumer protection agency deserves commendation and must be encouraged to remain a routine practice in Ghana if citizens are to demand and enjoy effective, efficient and reliable services from providers who have been mandated by the tax payer to do so.

It must not become a nine-day-wonder and must be extended to other areas of our lives where the tax payer seems to be getting less value for money.

• Target: Electricity Company of ghana • Sponsored by: Consumer Protection Agency of Ghana Enough is Enough ECG Petition

Ghanaians are tired of the power outages which are causing damages to appliances, company equipment and even recent deaths.

Over the past few years electricity traffics/bills have increase over one hundred percent but we still have not seen any improvement in electricity supply in the country.

The PURC (Public Utility Regulatory Commission) who is the regulating body who always assures us of a better service and sets up bench marks for the utility companies to improve services. However these bench marks are not adhered to and the PURC has failed to hold the utility companies accountable.

We are urging every ECG user whose name reflects on the bill and has been affected by these erratic supply of electricity which has caused damages to their appliances and even affected their lives and are tired or angry to sign this petition to enable the CPA take up a class action suite against ECG.
