Classroom block Inaugurated at Dzogborve Primary

Dzogborve (V/R), June 21, GNA - A new classroom block worth GH¢ 128,000 has been inaugurated for the Roman Catholic Primary at Dzogborve in the South Tongu District. The building which has a store, office and fitted with furniture was executed by CareNet Ghana, a not-for-profit development-oriented organisation with funding from SED, a Marist Non-Governmental Organisation based in Spain.

Mr Patrick Ahumah-Ocansey, Executive Director of CareNet Ghana said the actualization of the school building project stemmed from a news item, in which, teachers and pupils made an appeal for a decent classroom block to bolster enrolment. He noted that the old dilapidated structure was a disincentive to school attendance and a proposal was tabled leading to the building project. Mr Ahumah-Ocansey pleaded for a sustained culture of maintenance to prolong the lifespan of the facility to benefit generations yet unborn. Mrs Philomena Afeti, South Tongu District Director of Education said the school project was a vivid interpretation of government's public-private partnership in the education enterprise and lauded CareNet and other partners for their resolve. She said events like this would reinforce the actualization of the Millennium Development Goals especially on education for all. Mrs Afeti appealed to parents to invest in the education of their children as the reward is overwhelming. Togbe Yelu Keteni V, Divisional Chief of Agave Traditional Area said the community would adopt ownership and maintenance approaches to the new block.

He pledged additional 100 acres of land for future development and expansion of the school and appealed to other NGOs to emulate the example of CareNet Ghana. Togbe Keteni, an old student of the School urged pupils to grasp the opportunity. Ms Felicia Aguze, a pupil, on behalf of colleagues expressed her joy for the new block saying they would have to justify the huge investment made by their benefactors and parents. An Education Endowment fund was established towards the maintenance of the building as well as for brilliant and needy children. 21 June 11
