Sunyani (B/A), Oct. 9, GNA - The African Enterprise (AE), an Inter-denominational Evangelistic Organisation, in conjunction with the local Churches in the Sunyani Municipality, on Saturday organised a clean-up campaign in Municipality.

The six-hour exercise that climaxed a weeklong evangelical programme dubbed "Sunyani Mission 2004", was organized by the AE in collaboration with the local churches.

The members of the Churches numbering over 80 led by Reverend Dr. Nii Amoo-Darku, National Director of AE, picked plastic waste materials, desilted choked gutters, weeded the weedy areas around the premises of the High Court and Wesley Methodist Church and others buildings and swept the main streets of the Municipality.

In an interview with the GNA after the exercise, Rev. Dr. Amoo-Darku appealed to the people to take environmental cleanliness seriously adding that "cleanliness is next to Godliness". He called on all religious bodies in the country to undertake such initiatives to ensure a clean and healthy environment.

Mr. Steve Andrews, a donor from New Zealand who participated in the exercise, advised Ghanaians to emulate the example of the AE and the Churches to avoid being attacked by malaria, cholera and other preventable diseases.

Apostle Samuel Kwaku Teye from the Brong-Ahafo Regional Apostolic Church, commended the Organisation for the initiative and gave the assurance that the Churches would always collaborate with it to implement programmes aimed at making the environment clean. Seminars were organised to sensitise heads of institutions, members of political parties, security agencies, the media traditional rulers among others on the need for free, fair, and peaceful elections in December.
