Accra, Feb. 18, GNA- Leavers' Club (LECS), a Suhum-based youth club, on Monday expressed dismay at the manner in which the security agencies, especially the police, were handling the issue of killings that have recently engulfed the area. "We the youth of Suhum will like to state in no uncertain terms without fear, favour or malice that the District Security Council has goofed big time and that it needs to sit up because this concerns the shedding of innocent blood not forgetting the emotional turmoil the victims' families will be going through," a statement signed by Mr Osei-Poku Agyeman, Executive Secretary of the club, said. He said the number of police personnel sent to Suhum to tackle the problem was inadequate and their strategies to fight the menace were outmoded.

He said the number of police personnel sent to Suhum to tackle the problem was inadequate and their strategies to fight the menace were outmoded. Mr Agyeman said "It will interest you to know that the 60 policemen that have been brought to post in the town are woefully inadequate since they cannot live up to the task." He urged government to set up a special task force to investigate the gruesome killings in order to bring the perpetrators to book. Mr Agyemen said "We will also call on the Interior Minister, the Eastern Region and Suhum District Security Councils to, as a matter of urgency, re-strategize and intensify their bid to put a stop to this pain in the neck." He also called on the inhabitants of the area to exercise restraint and be calm whilst the security agencies map up strategies to end the unwarranted insecurity. Several people have been killed in the Suhum area in recent weeks raising concern about security as the perpetrators have not yet been apprehended.
