The Coalition of Hygiene Students, Ghana, have announced plans to picket at the Ministry of Sanitation and Water Resources on Tuesday, November 19, 2024.

The demonstration is intended to demand the posting of graduates and the payment of outstanding allowances dating back to 2021.

In an interview with Channel One TV on Monday, November 18, 2024, Fred Awine Atinga, the General Secretary of the coalition, stated that several petitions to the government have yielded no results.

He emphasised that graduates from various disciplines, including environmental health, occupational health and safety, and occupational therapy, have been neglected by the government for years.

"We have been with the Ministry of Water and Sanitation for the past four years; they will tell us to go, we are working on it. We have been in the house for the past four years. We feel that unposted environmental health officers, occupational health and safety students, and occupational therapists have been neglected by the government," he explained.

He also criticised the government for what he described as an unequal distribution of allowances, claiming that only nursing students benefit.

"We feel that the government has been paying some sections of student allowances to nurses alone while leaving the other sector. Meanwhile, there is nothing called nursing training school allowances, but we have health training college allowances.

"We feel like we have to go to the Ministry and demand justice for our people and ourselves as well," he remarked.

The group has vowed to demand justice for their colleagues and themselves during the protest, hoping to prompt action from the ministry.
