Cobbler jailed for defiling 14-year lunatic girl

Sunyani, Dec. 1, GNA- The Sunyani Circuit court on Friday sentenced a cobbler, Kojo Nyamekye, to seven years' imprisonment in hard labour for defiling a 14-year-old lunatic at 'Gambia No.1' in the Asunafo District.

Nyamekye pleaded guilty.


Police Chief Inspector Kwesi Asafo-Adjei, told the court presided over by Mr Kofi Debrah that the victim lived with her parents at 'Gambia No.1' whilst the accused operated from village to village.


On January 20, this year, the accused arrived at Gambia No.1 and lodged with the victim's brother.


Two days after when everybody in the house left to attend a funeral, leaving the accused and the victim, he took advantage and forcibly had sex with her, the prosecutor said.

Chief Inspector Asafo-Adjei said the girl's brother who had not yet gone to the funeral grounds entered the room to put on his mourning cloth and met them in the act.


The girl's brother raised an alarm that attracted people to the scene but Nyamekye fled to a nearby town.


The matter was reported to the police and a medical form was issued for the girl to attend hospital at Goaso Government Hospital where she was admitted for two days.


Chief Inspector Asafo-Adjei said the accused was later arrested at his hideout.
