Coca-Cola Sued

A Ghanaian domiciled in the United States of America, Patrick Effah has sued the Coca Cola Bottling Company of Ghana over a bottle of poisoned Fanta drink he bought at a drinking spot located at Kaneshie in Accra. Mr Effah said as a result of the negligence of the quality control unit of Coca Cola Company, he fell victim to a contaminated product dispensed by the company.

As a result, Mr Effah said, he suffered a serious stomach ulcer which made him dehydrated in no less time. This, according to him, persisted and he was taken to a Clinic where it took a long time for him to obtain a relief. Mr Effah is therefore seeking general damages against the Coca Cola company for putting a contaminated product on the market .

The plaintiff did not specify how much money in terms of compensatory damages he was seeking but said he would not settle for anything less than ?50 million.

Mr Effah said he took the court action because instead of sympathizing with his plight, the Coca Cola Company sought a negotiated settlement by offering him ten crates of their product. This to him, was exploitative, hence his decision to fight it out in a court of law.
