Cocoa And Food Crops Locked Up At Atwima Obuasekrom

Large quantities of cocoa, food and other crops have been locked-up at Obuasekrom, near Nyinahin in Atwima District as a result of the collapse of the bridge spanning River Bayerebon.

Nana Frempong Manu, Chief of the town, said this at an educational forum held at Obuasekrom to discuss problems affecting education in the area.

He said food and other crops were getting rotten thus impoverishing the farmers in the area.

Nana Frempong Manu, therefore, appealed to the District Assembly, Ghana Cocobod and the Feeder Roads Department to assist them repair the bridge.

Mr Joseph Mensah, Obuasekrom Assembly member said, the community had put up three teachers' quarters for the local primary school at the cost of 40 million

cedis and also provided teachers' tables and chairs, cupboards and desks worth over 16 million cedis to the school.

He said, the Atwima District Assembly and Mr Dantey Afiriyie, Member of Parliament (MP) for Atwima Mponua have donated 20 and 25 bags of cement, respectively, towards the renovation of the school building.

Mr Mensah said, the community had paid 1.7 million cedis to the assembly to enable them to benefit from the district's water and sanitation programme.

Mr Asare Bediako Baffour, Assistant Director in-charge of Human Resource Development and Management at the Atwima District Education Office, asked the parents to ensure that school dropouts and children of school going age in the town went to sc school
